Jesse J. Averhart has work tirelessly for the right of the members of Local 1033
Here are a few of his accomplishments.
MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENTS
- Set a Precedent (argued for changing the law) in determining what constitutes sexual harassment in administrative proceedings for all state workers.
- Was successful in arguing the unconstitutionality of an agreement between previous administrations of Local 1033 and the State regarding Intermittent
Employees. As a result the State agreed to negotiate provisions in the contract allowing Intermittent Employees to become permanent employees after working a set amount of hours.
Was successful in numerous:
- mass reclassification appeals.
- disciplinary appeals.
- Unfair Labor Practice Appeals.
Earning Mutual Respect in Establishing an excellent working relationship with:
- The members of this Local, inspiring and empowering them to know what their rights were. What they could do and what they could not do.
- Presidents and members of other Locals, President and staff of the Mercer Area AFL-CIO, through sharing information.
- Commissioners and Directors in all departments where our members work to resolve problems before and after they arose. Including, successfully
having 3 upper management individuals removed, transferred or retired.
- Members of the Legislature. Including the Honorable Bonnie Coleman-Watson, Assemblywoman and Majority Leader of the NJ General Assembly where
I annoyed her Chief of Staff to no end and to whom I am eternally grateful for her always being there.
- The Governor’s Office of Employee Relations (OER) working out any differences or disagreements with the departments our members work in. I would
like to extend a special thank you and congratulations to Ms. Hope Cooper on her appointment as Acting Commissioner of the Department of Personnel.
- Administrative Law Judges and Hank Maurer, Director of Merit System Practices and Labor Relations.
